In this lesson pupils will learn about the “Stop, Look, Listen, Think ” sequence and discuss how it can be applied in a range of settings.

They will discuss how distractions such as mobile phones and pressure from peers may cause dangerous situations.

In this lesson pupils will learn road safety skills for when they are old enough to travel without an adult.

They will learn to identify how one route may be safer than another, and how to be a considerate traveller.

There is a focus on how to cross the road safely, identifying places to cross and areas to avoid.

Students will confront assumptions about road safety and the impact of distractions on reaction times.

Students will reflect on their own behaviours and how distractions could negatively impact their own personal safety.

  3. I know about issues affecting young drivers such as peer pressure, speed, seat belts, inexperience and overconfidence.
  4. I know how to travel safely when I am on my own and understand the benefits of sustainable travel.

Students will reflect on the behaviors they have developed over the years, as a pedestrian and a passenger.

This pack contains everything you need for lesson plan 5, dangerous habits.

Students will understand  the benefits of sustainable travel, alongside the ways of how to do so safely. Many students will have thought about how they can improve their travel, to make it more sustainable to benefitt them, their families and their local communities.

Students will also work on school campaigns to encourage others to make more sustainable choices about travelling to and from school.
