Highway Code Changes

Highway Code Changes

Following changes to The Highway Code that came into effect on 29 January 2022, THINK! launched a campaign to shift attitudes and encourage safer driving behaviours among road users across Great Britain. The campaign consisted of two phases – the first phase, which ran in February, raised awareness of changes to The Highway Code and the second phase in July sought to drive behaviour change.

Phase 1 of the campaign aimed to improve road safety for people walking, cycling and horse riding. Encouraging all road users to ‘Check the changes, let’s keep each other safe’.

Campaign assets consisted of illustrations to help communicate the changes clearly. Messaging reflected The Highway Code and was kept simple to aid in comprehension.

The campaign assets ran across Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. A radio advert also ran on broadcast radio and digital radio.

We encourage partners to make use these factual awareness raising assets (linked below) and the ‘Travel like you know them’ assets from Phase 2, depending on the objectives of their communications. If you would like advice on which assets to use, please contact us at DfTPUBLICITY@dft.gov.uk.

All assets will signpost to GOV.UK The Highway Code: 8 changes you need to know from 28 January 2022, where there is more information on these changes. Assets supplied are free to use for educational purposes, however if used in a paid-for capacity (particularly outside of the national campaign period) usage fees may apply.
